Smith's Health Care PlanState Sen. Fred Smith says his health care proposal is based on his business' plan. In an interview with the Goldsboro News-Argus, the Republican gubernatorial candidate said his company offers a health care plan with high deductibles and health savings accounts. "I don't think universal health care by the government is the answer," Smith said. "But I do think we need to be diligent about providing accessible and affordable health care. The government can make the program, but it's up to the businesses to take it." He also argued for reforming medical liability laws, improving information technology in medicine and pushing North Carolinians to take charge of their own health care. "We need to have the free market to solve this," he said. "When the American consumer can shop and have all the facts, quality goes up and costs go down." > Posted by Ryan Teague Beckwith in the News & Observer Under the Dome blog.
