Senator Fred Smith Visits the House of Flags

On Friday February 1st North Carolina Senator Fred Smith, a Republican candidate for Governor, visited the House of Flags Museum facility in Green Creek. Museum Curator George Scofield provided the historical tour of the evolution of the flag of the United States from the pre-Colonial era through modern times. The Senator was "amazed by the truly remarkable collection of flags." The Board of Directors discussed their vision of a new museum building in downtown Columbus located adjacent to Veteran's Park and the historic Polk County Courthouse. The Senator then briefed the Board on his plans as Governor of the state and the upcoming primary election. George H. Erwin, Senator Smith's WNC Regional Campaign Manager also discussed some additional foundation grant opportunities for funding the new building project. These are being followed up by the Board.
